Joe's Blawg

Nothin' special here. Just ordinary "blawg" conversation from a typical college student striving to glorify Christ with every minute of his life.

Facebook Braketology

Fierce competition, tons of smack talk, players cutting and diving at one another for the top, shocking upsets right and left. This is what its been like the past weekend..... No I'm not talking about the NCAA Tournament, I'm talking about our Facebook Bracket Competition. Here's the standings:

Player.......Bracket.....R1.....R2 .....R3.....R4.....R5....R6...Total
Andrew Beauchamp....view.......30.......44.......0.......0.......0.......0.........74
John Guess............view.......31.......30.......0.......0.......0........0........61
Joe Thompson......view.......35......24.......0........0.......0.......0.........59
Dan Beauchamp.....view.......28......28.......0........0.......0.......0.........56
Emily Kitchens.........view.......45......10.......0........0.......0.......0.........55
Derrick Kitchens.........view.......25......26.......0........0.......0.......0.........51
Stephen Rogers...........view.......28......20.......0.......0.......0........0.........48
Laura Kitchens........view.......27.......18.......0.......0.......0........0.........45
Colvin Franklin..........view.......26.......16.......0.......0......0.........0.........42
Ryan Poe................view......23.......14.......0.......0......0.........0.........37

So after a hard fought, gritty weekend, I have fallen from 1st to 2nd when Emily won an upset of Northwestern St. over Iowa that gave her the lead, but however faultered in the 2nd round as these upset teams proved themselves in capable of advancing to the sweet 16. However, in round 2 Andrew B. tore up the brakets with predicting the Wichita St. and Georgetown upsets. Even at the last minute John G. pulled up some serious points that put him over me as well, so I have now dropped to third (temporarily, of course).

The scoring system is based on 1,2,4,8,15,25 for each round, with upsets giving bonus points for the seed winning minus the seed losing, multiplied by the points given for the round (eg. say Team1 is a 12 seed, and they knock off Team2 who is a 4 seed, in the second round, if you correctly predict that upset, you get 8 bonus pts for the upset, multiplied by 2 because its the 2nd round, so you get a total of 16 bonus pts for that one game).

Btw, I am not posting this to embarrass anybody (lol Ryan), but just to display the skill and accuracy of prediction that prove why us Memphians are the kings of basketball.

I'd just like to point out, also, that the top 4 are Memphians, the 5 below that are non-Memphians, and then Ryan's just in to win the booby prize (lol) to make sure us Memphians take home all the trophies. ;)
