Joe's Blawg

Nothin' special here. Just ordinary "blawg" conversation from a typical college student striving to glorify Christ with every minute of his life.

Potentially Changing Majors

Well, theres a young college student at the University of Memphis. This particular college student has a completion of 86 course hours (needing 90 to become a Senior), and while taking 12 this fall semester is on pace to do it. However, theres a little problem there. Despite being a Senior, this student just might still decide to change major....

So thats where the problem begins. I am stuck in this Database course in MIS, and probably going to bomb it again this semester. I may just call-it-quits with MIS altogether. Afterall, is MIS really want I want to do with my career? Plus, teaching is just one big "ego trip" for all the MIS professors (unlike any other instructor I've had in the business department).

So here are the options for alternative majors:
a, Finance
b, Marketing
c, Management
d, Just drop out of college Joe, your a loser anyway
e, Stick with MIS, even though those low grades and repeat courses will look bad on your transcript and résumé.

Pro's: I am sticking with business, so a change will only set me back 3 courses (meaning, probably no more than one semester). I'm leaning towards Marketing simply because I enjoy it most. Also, my software familiarity and Excel Certification will go well, and is a good hiring point, in a Marketing position.

Con's: The question with Marketing is "what is the job market like for Marketing majors right now?" What about Finance or Management? Finance probably has a better job market even though I can't stand to have that kind of a job, while Management is definently easier. And could I still stick it out with MIS? Afterall, MIS is what kind of fits into my résumé right now.

Anyway, if yall want to check out my résumé that I did for Business Communications, just click here: Joe's really cool and updated business résumé.

Please offer any advice you can, believe me I need it, but please don't say "pick something you like, not something that you will make a lot of money with," they told me that when I started college, and I was thinking "if I were doing something I liked, why would I even be going to college in the first place?"

Thanks yall, I need your prayers as always, and God bless.

It's Not The End For Ford

Today I am just at an utter loss for words. The election last night was not a victory for the Christians. In fact, the Democrats taking the House and the Senate was icing WITHOUT the cake. What I really wanted to see from this election was Conservative, Christian, and scripture-quoting Congressman Harold Ford Jr. pull out a victory. And let me assure you it is not because I am against Bob Corker. Although I felt Corker ran a horrible, sleezy campaign, I must give credit where it is due and congratulate him on a victory. This has been about Harold Ford Jr. for a year and a half now, for me. I always said that if I ran for President, and either of us were not from TN, then Harold Ford Jr. will be my running mate (no VP is allowed to run if he is from the same state as the running Presidential candidate).

So I would just like to take this time thank everyone that I spoke to about this campaign. I want to thank my fellow Jr. supporters for your hard work and support. I want to thank all the Corker supporters who challenged my views on the issues and made for some good debates, and I want to thank everyone else just for being you. I know this is not the last we will see of Harold Ford Jr. There have been rumors that he'll run for Mayor of Memphis (I'd vote for him, but I hope he goes for something a little higher), there have also been rumors that he'll run against Lamar Alexander for the Senate in 2008. And there have been rumors than he'll run for Governor of TN in 2010 (yea right, like future President Bredeson will step down). Whatever Ford does, I support him. I hope he goes for a state-wide position though, he's too good for these local positions.

Yall please pray for Harold Ford Jr, as well as our senators. God bless Tennessee and God bless America!!!

Parallel Parking, isn't it fun?

If you are one of the 8 PB's who currently attend the Univ. of Memphis, I am sure that you have experienced trouble parking. There are two main parking lots at the U of M, Southern (which is on the south side of campus) and Central (which is on the north side of campus). I typically parking in neither of them.

Being a Business major, I typically find myself parking somewhere on Patterson (north of Central) or on the small side street in front of Richardson Towers. There was one particularly difficult occurance a couple weeks ago that forced me to pity my car and the hard work it does to save me from a further walk. Last Tuesday (a
week and a day ago, same day as my last post), I forced my car, with the beautiful Harold Ford Jr. stickers on the back bumper, to muscle its way into a spot with about 2 inches to breathe on the front and back side, between the cars around me. And although I try not to be "proud" of things like this, I felt it was at least worth a blog post. Its just a little reminder about how aggressive one must be in parking at the U of M.
